Riess Enamel
The history of the traditional family business Riess dates back to 1550. In that year, a pan smithy was founded in Ybbsitz, Lower Austria, laying the foundation for the current brand Riess. Since 1922, the company in the Mostviertel region has been producing the globally renowned and popular, as well as internationally successful, Riess Enamel. Here, high-quality cookware made of enamel is created, along with useful kitchen helpers and contemporary collections. Riess Enamel is still largely handcrafted in Austria today, produced CO2-neutral, and is very durable with proper handling and care.
One reason for the great success of Riess Enamel is its characteristic design. Collections like “Classic” evoke the good old days and possess that charming appeal. However, the enameled cookware skillfully combines a nostalgic look with modern technology. Riess Enamel not only looks good but also impresses with its inner values, namely quality:
Riess enamel cookware is ideal for cooking and frying. Iron has high thermal conductivity but is prone to rust on its own. The enamel coating protects the iron core, making the cookware completely aroma-neutral. Enamel cookware from Riess is also perfect for induction cooking. This is because this enamel cookware has a magnetizable “core” made of iron. This allows the pot base and walls to heat up very quickly. And with baking molds made of Riess Enamel, you achieve crispy baking results. Cakes and casseroles can then be cut and divided directly in the form. And even without baking paper, the baked goods can be easily removed. Enamel products from Riess are extremely cut and scratch-resistant, food-neutral, and easy to clean.

What is Enamel?
The idea of the company's founder was to produce enameled "health cookware" because the conventional pots at that time released problematic substances into the food during cooking. Enameling created a way to seal cookware. This aspect is just as important today as it was back then. Inferior pots and pans can still be potential sources of contamination in the food sector. In contrast, Riess cookware makes cooking not only energy-efficient but also safe and healthy.
Back to the term enamel. Everyone knows this term, but what exactly is enamel? Riess provides a brief yet meaningful statement: "Enamel is glass on iron - fused together in the kiln." This means: From natural raw materials such as quartz, clay, feldspar, and borax, the so-called enamel slip is produced. At the same time, blanks are made from iron, such as pots or pans. These are dipped into the enamel slip, which is then melted at 850 °C. Through the firing process, the iron of the blanks is firmly bonded with the enamel - resulting in the hard, non-porous surface and the sometimes wonderfully bright colors of the Riess collections.
