Riess Classic Pastel
Riess Classic Pastel. This is high-quality enamel cookware in delicate soft ice cream colors. Skillfully "retro," this collection from the Austrian brand Riess is reminiscent of the 1950s. We find the combination of nostalgia with modern technology totally "leiwand." (For all non-Austria-affine readers: "leiwand" means something like "great, awesome, cool" in Austrian). Because this Riess enamel not only looks good, it also impresses with its inner values, namely quality: Riess enamel products are extremely cut and scratch-resistant, food-neutral, and easy to clean. The items are suitable for induction and all other types of stoves (except microwave) and enable wholesome and energy-saving cooking. Riess enamel is largely handcrafted in the Mostviertel region of Lower Austria, is produced CO²-neutrally, and is very durable with proper handling and care.
This is Enamel
Let's briefly return to the term enamel. Everyone knows this designation, but what exactly is enamel? Riess provides a brief yet expressive statement: “Enamel is glass on iron - fused together in the kiln.” This means: Natural raw materials such as quartz, clay, feldspar, borax, and many others are used to produce the so-called enamel slip. At the same time, blanks, such as pots or pans, are made from iron. These are dipped into the enamel slip, which is then melted at 850 °C. Through the firing process, the iron of the blanks is firmly bonded with the enamel – resulting in the hard, non-porous surface and the wonderfully vibrant colors of the Riess collections.
