Noyer

Noyer is a young label from Denmark that produces high-quality furniture, home, and kitchen accessories made from walnut wood. Noyer products combine high functionality with extravagant design. All items are lovingly handcrafted in a small workshop in Valby near Copenhagen. You can see from the objects that they are skillfully created by hand at the saw, and not constructed by a CAD program on a computer. All products from Noyer are completely made in Denmark—from the creative idea to production to the finish. The floor of the workshop is covered with sawdust, it smells warmly of wood, and the team of carpenters, along with founder Janus Larsen, works with a lot of imagination and passion.

The product portfolio includes, in addition to wooden furniture, magnetic strips for knife storage and cutting boards. The characteristic design of Noyer creations immediately catches the eye and is equally the typical trademark of the still young company: An extraordinary shaping of the pieces together with the extravagant grain of the walnut wood results in the unmistakable Noyer design. This creates small works of art for your kitchen that are as individual as you are. No piece is identical in detail, each is unique. Naturally, the products of a series resemble each other in essential characteristics such as appearance, size, and dimensions, so you can be sure when selecting that knife strips and cutting boards will be delivered in the desired length and width and have a comparable appearance to the items in the shop.

Why Walnut Wood?

The wood of the walnut tree is what gives the brand its name: „Noyer“ is French and translates to walnut tree. Janus Larsen is often asked „Why walnut in particular?“ For him, there are a number of reasons why he and his team prefer to work with walnut wood:

• Walnut wood is characterized by high durability and dimensional stability. Furniture and everyday objects made of walnut retain their given shape for a long time. Therefore, this type of wood has been used for centuries for the production of rifle stocks, among other things.

• The wood of the walnut has a deep, dark color and a lively grain, also due to the many knots. This appearance gives the products made from it an exclusive and noble look. In addition, walnut can be polished extremely smooth. So smooth that it feels – according to Larsen – almost like porcelain. This smooth feel is in fascinating contrast to the warm wood appearance.

• Over the years, walnut wood develops a wonderful patina. Almost all wood gradually patinates, but with walnut, the naturally beautiful color becomes even more vibrant and deeper over time.

• The walnut wood used by Noyer comes from sustainable agriculture in the USA.

Why Knife Holders?

The tool most frequently used by hobby and professional chefs in the kitchen is – the knife. Therefore, it makes sense to have kitchen knives safely and within reach. Under no circumstances should you place high-quality knives in the drawer, together with other cutlery. This damages the blades, and the risk of injury is high. There are various ways to keep knives handy in the kitchen. A functional and at the same time attractive method is to present the knives freely hanging on a magnetic strip from Noyer.
