Boos Blocks 1887 Collection

Cutting Boards in Rustic Design

The year is 1887. John Boos crafted a cutting block for a local butcher for the first time. On the occasion of the company's 125th anniversary, the origins were commemorated and - inspired by the original Boos butcher block - the 1887 Collection was designed in the Rustic-Edge style.

The Rustic-Edge Design

In the Rustic-Edge design, cutting boards are left as natural as possible during processing. Rustic, rough-sawn edges, sometimes with notches and knots, are characteristic of these cutting boards. Each board differs even more from the others than is already the case with wooden cutting boards. The natural variations in color, grain, and especially in the growth rings are fully showcased. More than ever, the wooden cutting boards of the 1887 Collection are true unique pieces.

Three Types of Wood from Sustainable Cultivation

The types of wood available are maple, black walnut, and cherry wood. All types of wood are characterized by a certain hardness, yet they are flexible enough to protect knife blades. For the 1887 Collection, Boos Blocks uses renewable wood from sustainable cultivation in the USA. The production achieves a 25% lower CO2 footprint and generates 25% less material waste compared to conventional production.

Made from a Single Piece of Wood

The cutting boards are made from a single piece of hardwood, can be used on both sides, and are safe for preparing any type of food. The types of wood used have a high tannin content, which, with proper care, naturally acts as a germ and bacteria inhibitor. The finely sanded cutting surfaces are protected by the Boos Blocks Cream Finish with beeswax, like all Boos Blocks cutting boards.
